Rating System

This is more of a pity rating than anything else because I refuse to give any book I read zero stars, considering the amount of work it took to even get the book published. The only reason that a book would ever get half a star would be if it royally messed up (which I am hoping does not happen often.)

Slightly better than half a star...maybe something that the cat carried in, instead of dragged in. I hate giving books this rating because after all, it was published, but if it deserves it, it deserves it.

It's not the worst thing in the world, but it certainly is not the cream of the crop either. Books that are rated this put some effort up, but still missed the mark.

Slightly better. This book is mediocre at best and needs a lot more work but is heading in the right direction. Usually books of this caliber are vapid and frivolous fun, with no real literary depth.

Doesn't quite reach the three star mark, but it definitely is getting better. It's still mediocre, but the better of the two, if that makes any sense. Books like this are like people in their awkward stage of life. They need some more maturing to do.

Once a book gets in the 3 star range, then they are heading in the right direction. I usually don't give many books in the 3 star and 3.5 range because they are more neutral ratings and I often feel very strongly about the books I read: I either really like it or really do not.

So close yet so far. These books were actually pretty good, but were not great. They are scratching the surface of literary genius, yet barely missed the mark. Again, I don't give many of these.

Once a book makes it to my 4 star range, then they pretty much have it made. These types of books blew me away and were amazing to the point that I felt a strong emotional connection to the book...but was still missing that one thing to make it immortalized in the five star hall of fame.

This might be one of the best...or worst categories to be in because it is so close to a perfect rating yet still not there! This might be one the ratings I give most often because perfection is hard to attain, and this is the closest thing to it. There is definitely literary depth to this and is just amazing.

Perfection. Amazing to the point of no return. A classic. The most coveted of all ratings because only the most deserving of literary geniuses belong here.
